I never thought song writing would be this hard. I used to write songs for my mother when I was younger. Like really young. My mother was my number 1 influence. She loves singing and I’ve grown up with music everywhere. She used to have me sing ABBA songs. That’s when I started writing my own songs. They sounded like ABBA. Well, the very amateur type. Lol.
But as I grew up, I learned to hate writing. Especially when I met literature and all its complications! I stopped writing. I have evolved into more of a talker than a writer. But there still were times in my teenage life that I’d break into a song and sometimes would write it down. I know. Too much HSM. More like Phantom of the Opera.
Now that I’m, well, *coughs*, an adult, I’ve rekindled that love for writing again. I love listening to jingles written by ordinary people (not like the songs written by award winning writers). I felt there’s freedom in song-writing. Freedom express things you can’t say in person, because it’s either too cheesy or just plain, boring. There’s no boring song for me. As long as its written from the heart, and not for the sake of money (it’s not about the money, money. we don’t need ur money money), I think that song would go off farther than a mortal could even achieve.
I love, super duper love, Amazing Grace. The old hymn. I don’t know why. It just never grows old. It’s had different melodies (lots of them) and tunes to it but, the words itself, are the most timeless ever. Like really. I wonder who wrote that song. I’ve always known it was Mr. Anonymous. But there are so many of them with the same name so I can’t tell who. He’s probably dead, anyway.
Okay, so just now, I googled it. It was John Newton. I’m not gonna write about him here. Read his wikipedia page.
When I die, I want to have that song played, together with “When it’s all been said and done” by Don Moen and “At the Cross” by Darlene Zschech. They are two of the people that inspire me most.
Anyway, so back to song writing. When I went back to church, I’ve started writing songs again and re-arranging the previous songs I had. But this time, I’ve come to realize, I’ve never had real training and no one ever told me if my songs were okay or not. I just realized, I have always been the only one who listened to my songs, and criticized them. So for me to learn more and improve in song writing, I think it would really be great to have co-writers. Someone you can shuffle your music and lyrics with. I’m gunna write songs soon, with ate Cathy and soon enough with more people.
